We had a prospective client who was working with a distributor who was deliberating whether to contract to distribute their products. This distributor already carries a broad array of products from various suppliers, and has a fleet of trucks making deliveries to their customers daily. The distributor liked our prospect’s products, but was hedging about whether they wanted to take on any additional products.
We suggested to our prospective client that this distributor’s trucks were likely returning to their facility empty, and that our client should offer that the distributor could pick up products at our warehouse while they were “dead heading” (traveling empty) back to the distributor’s facility, thus reducing the distributor’s inbound freight costs. The distributor liked the idea, and signed up to distribute our new client’s products.
