One of our clients contacted us complaining about excessive damage with their solar panel shipments via small parcel carriers like UPS and FDX. These solar panels are large flat products, with a large glass surface, and the manufacturer’s packaging was insufficient to protect the product when shipments were made via a small parcel carrier. Our client was experiencing a significant amount of shipment damage, and the carriers were denying our clients damage claims due to “insufficient packaging”. Further, many of these solar panels are expensive, so our client was incurring significant expense when these panels were damaged.
We worked with a packaging expert to develop a packaging solution that would be reasonably economical and would help avoid product damage while the product was in transit. We developed a solution that worked for our client’s budget, and significantly reduced shipment damage. Shipment damage is increasingly rare on these solar panels; and, when the carrier’s claims adjustor was shown our packaging solution, they paid all of the outstanding claims without further delay.
