POSTPONEMENT – CUSTOMIZING PRODUCT TO ORDER

We have a client who sells electrical accessories including various gauges of wire and cable. Our client sells these products by the foot, and needed someone who could control inventory by the length of the wire. Further, when an order is received for one of these products, they needed us to measure and cut the wire to fill the order. This is a simple example of a technique called “postponement”, where product is held in a semi-finished state, and orders are custom assembled to suit the exact specifications of that order.
